History of MTB surfboards

Donald Takayama, Donald Mulhern, and Garry Brumett teamed up and made history together. The first letter of their last names is what MTB surfboards stood for. One of the hottest labels of the early 1970’s. Before long, they couldn’t keep up with the demand for their high performance shortboards. Donald Takayama, Donald Mulhern, and Garry Brumett all decided to do their own thing, and that’s when Don Mulhern and son Patrick headed to Florida. Don Mulhern opened up MTB Surf Shop in Satellite Beach Florida, in the early 1970’s. MTB was arguably the top surfboard manufacturer on the east coast going into the 1980’s. The talented shapers and innovative shapes attracted buyers and kept them coming!
